Day Tour vs. Overnight Stay?
Here's how to decide...
Arctic SnowHotel Day Tour: What to Expect
This is a great choice for those on a tight time or monetary budget
It included a heated bus ride-no driving in wintry conditions-you're dropped off at the entrance.
We were picked up at Santa Claus Office village in a motorcoach (full size fancy bus). Then we had a few pickup stops in the city, so you get a look at city life in the city of Rovaniemi, Finland. An added bonus! Plus you don’t have to drive or find a place to park.
What happens when you get to the hotel? You're invited into the gift shop, snack bar, coffee shop, theater with stadium seating AND two bathrooms. Indoor and heated!!!
Once that business is done, there is actually a VERY interesting presentation. about ice block sourcing. This is done in March.from the lake you’ll see in my pictures. Then the giant ice cubes are stored in a solar powered freezer warehouse until the building starts again in late November the same year.
Then we did a self-guided, not rushed at all. WE were in the rooms alone for most of the time and met delightful friendly guests and staff throughout the rooms, chapel, ice bar, and ice restaurant.
Safer than snowboarding? Most likely you’ll just be walking on ice -not riding like those Olympic snowboarders who fly on this stuff. You'll have 2 feet on the ground!
The staff inside the hotel during the tour, were also part of the construction team. They happily answered my questions in English. And were willing to take photos too!
Do you believe I found the best souvenir in the gift shop?
Yes I did-forgot to take a photo-but they had beautiful pillow covers with a northern lights graphic and the SnowHotel on them. Genius idea. I was able to fit 2 of them into my bag for gifts. And didn’t have to do the sit on my suitcase thing to get them into my bag.
Staying Overnight at Arctic SnowHotel: Cost & Experience
Would you pay 799 euros to sleep in a freezer?
Are you daring and determined to make your dream of staying in this masterpiece come true?
You’ll receive a highly insulated sleeping bag to use on top of the faux fur blanket and mattress embedded into the bed frame made of ice in your room.
I heard they also have luggage storage and if you can’t make it through the night-there are heated bunks available.
It’a a limited time engagement for your splurge-ONE night-only-that's the limit-or so we heard on the tour
Windows? NO. Heated? NO. Doors? NO (there are curtains instead)
Bathroom? In another room-and probably heated
What's included (breakfast, wake-up service, Northern Lights alarm, and a certificate that your survived your night in the Arctic SnowHotel
Want to know another fun activity you might hesitate about doing??
Guests watching a demonstration of how a Snow Sauna works with steam coming out of the igloo structure made of snow.
There is a SNOW SAUNA (bet that wasn't on your list of guesses.) Check out this video of the demonstration they had to entICE you. You could see and feel the steam coming out! Would you do this one? We opted out of this but there were people on our bus that came just for this.
Which one will you choose?
Choose day tour if:
☐ You have limited time- spend a few hours visiting not all day
☐ You're hesitant about extreme cold
☐ Budget is around 100 Euros(including transportation from a local hotel)
☐ You prefer heated accommodation nearby vs. a highly insulated sleeping bag.
Choose overnight if:
☐ It's your ultimate bucket list item
☐ You want the full experience
☐ You want the bragging rights/certificate-who wouldn’t want this on their wall back home?
☐ You're comfortable with sleeping in your palace made of ice.
